While some 200+ people died when three bombs exploded, Australia suffered the greatest 'single lose' with 88 Australians dying! At least 66 injured Australians were flown to Darwin the following day by the RAAF for further treatment. [ex-National Museum Australia,
Bali Bombing, 2002, link also below]
The painted Mural is of a tan-coloured, parchment scroll, with the names of Australians killed in 2002, at the bombing of the Sari Club at Kuta Beach. The scroll is flanked by a pair of flying white doves, with a couple more above in a blue sky. Beneath are four breaching dolphins, in a breaking-wave scenario. Yellow, and pink frangipani flowers are to the sides, with a grey surfer-dude-angel holding a red and yellow surfboard in his right arm, while he is holding a 'sacred heart' in his open left hand, which is surrounded by a rainbow. Further to right is a 'native girl' with more frangipani flowers around her.
The text of the Mural reads:
TO THE MEMORY OF
Kathy Salvatori Shane Foley Gerard Yeo
Gayle Airlie Tom Singer Robyn Webster
Deborah Borgia Adam Howard Geraldine Buchan
Abbey Borgia Clint Thompson Steve Buchan
Josh Iliffe Cathy Seelin Lynette McKeon
David Mavroudis Chloe Byron Marissa McKeon
And all of the 202 people who passed away in the bombing
at the Sari Club, Kuta Beach, Bali on the 12th October 2002
MAY THEY REST IN PEACE
