This fountain is located in the immediate vicinity of the aquarium in Piran. It can therefore be assumed that the shape of the well may also have something to do with the sea creatures that can be seen there. For example, a jumping dolphin could be depicted or the shape of a shark with its fin could be seen.

"The Piran Aquarium on the Adriatic coast is the only aquarium in Slovenia. It is directly in the tourist center of perhaps the most beautiful city of the small country, just a few meters from the sea.
A special feature of the Piran aquarium is that there are almost only native fish species from the Mediterranean Sea off Slovenia. Exceptions are only 2-3 species, which occur in the Adriatic, but mostly or only a little further south. Other fish or marine animals, such as tropical species, cannot be found in Piran's aquarium.
Piran's marine animal zoo is not very large, but it is very interesting for visitors interested in Adriatic marine biology. One gets a good overview of fish and other animals in the northern Mediterranean. There are about 25 tanks in total, in all tanks there are several different fish species. One of the fish tanks is much larger than the others. Here you can find the larger species.
At the entrance or exit there is a small souvenir shop. At the basins there are signs with the names of the fish species in several languages including German. The aquarium was renovated some years ago and looks modern. We especially liked the lighting.

The entrance fee is 5 Euro for adults. Children between 2 and 15 years pay an entrance fee of 3 Euro, infants under 2 years may look at the animals free of charge. We think that the entrance fee is not very cheap, especially as the aquarium is relatively small. At least there is a family ticket for 10 Euro for 2 adults with one child. For each additional child, one Euro is paid additionally with the family card.

The small marine zoo has long opening times. In the high season (mid-June to end of August) the aquarium is open daily from 8 am to 8 pm. In the low season from 9 am to 7 pm, in winter from 9 am to 5 pm. There is a rest day only in winter. Mondays are closed from November to April."
