In 1899 the city of Barnesville built a municipal complex made up of City Hall, the fire station and an opera house. A city jail was added in 1910.

The jail is a one story building set at the back of the corner lot and faces the side street. It has a raised brick belt course and corner posts extending above the roof line. The front facade is marked by a parapet roof line, according to National Parks documents. (visit link)

The building that use to be the city jail also use to be The Old City Jail Tourist and Artisan Center. Now it is back to being the old jail that is on the National Register of Historic Places.
