Site of plantation La Punta Gabaron owned 1814-1849 by Carlos Lavalle (Lavallet, Lavallette), born in 1772 of French parents in British Mobile. After Redcoats routed here in 1781, mother brought family to Spanish Pensacola. Carlos became a contractor and brickmaker and a leading citizen (see one of his houses in Historical District). He raised family (four children by Marianna Bonifay) and witnessed Andrew Jackson's assaults of 1814 and 1818, flag change of 1821, statehood in 1845. Sold plantation to Francisco Moreno in 1849, died in 1850's. Traces of rice ditches remain here on this original 800-arpent Spanish Land Grant. Developed 1968 by Dodson family.
