When we lived in the UP in the 70s you get could get to the Lake Superior shore without No Trespassing signs. Access is often limited now. This trail is open to the public due to the efforts of the Michigan Nature Association. A non-profit group. (visit link)

"This moderately difficult, 4.5-mile trail is in the heart of the Keweenaw and provides varied landscapes and 1500 feet of Lake Superior Shoreline.

To get there from US-41 on the North end of Calumet, turn West onto M-203 and travel about 1.25 miles to Tamarack Waterworks road and turn right. Travel 2.5 miles to Cedar Bay road and follow it for about 2.5 miles until reaching the Black Creek trailhead sign on the right about .2 miles from the end of the public road. Park alongside the road."
