The Boombox is billed as the "first and only karaoke lounge" in Providence, Rhode Island. Inspired by similar small venues in Korea and Japan, there is an open lounge and five private rooms.
With access to over 30,000 songs via the Healsonic app (iPhone or Android), patrons can make favorites lists, see new releases, keep track of songs sung, and control each private room's karaoke system.
Private rooms are rented out by the hour, with a one hour minimum. Two rooms each accommodate up to ten people; two hold 20; and one fits 16. Rates are half price before 9:00PM. Reservations recommended.
The bar serves beer (focusing on local and Asian favorites), wine on tap, sake, and signature sake-based cocktails.
It is located on the ground floor of The Dean Hotel -- the black awning-covered entry is along the side of the building and below a giant microphone mounted on the corner. Look around that corner and an enormous red octopus mural serves as your beacon from the south and east. The Boombox is open five nights a week with a 21+ age requirement after 9:00PM.
