That "Wagner" is in German script on the front plinth suggests that he came here from Germany or parts thereabout. Above is a sheaf of wheat, followed by:

There is no other text on the obelisk, which features the detail common to so many zinc markers. On the three other sides are a small bouquet of lilies, a wreath of roses, and another wreath with a rose and mixed flowers.
