With steps to the right and a ramp to the left of the front of the building this location of the Dilworth Post Office at 1 1st Avenue SE Dilworth has been in operation since ummm ... I don't know. I the nice lady I spoke with did not know when the building was build, nor did anyone else. The building has a 70s look to it and it does have a ramp. Not exactly a solid body of evidence, but lets go with the 1970s.
Established as a station by the Northern Pacific Railroad in 1883 the village was formally incorporated 1911, four years after the first post office opened.
According to Mark Peihl, Clay County Historical Society Archivist, in early August 1907 Rasmus Haugsted opened a general store half a block north of Center Ave. In mid-August Haugsted became Dilworth’s first Post Master and ran the Post Office from his store.
