The Russian parish of Strasbourg, attached to the Moscow Patriarchate, was created on June 22, 2003 and received the title of patriarchal on March 25, 2004.

From 2007 to 2017, she occupied a converted garage located at 4, rue de Niederbronn, near Boulevard Clemenceau. The idea of ??building a real church came in 2007, during the visit of Patriarch Alexis II. Indeed, the city of Strasbourg, European capital, did not have its Russian church unlike Baden-Baden, Stuttgart or Frankfurt for example. A 0.5-acre site (located on the former tennis courts of the Macromolecules Research Center) was made available by the municipality in 2011 in the Quinze district. The site is located on the edge of the Marne-Rhine canal, close to the European institutions. The foundation stone of the building is laid on September 30, 2014. Upon completion, the church will accommodate up to 300 worshipers. Its design was provided by the Russian architect Dimitry Pchenichnikov and the French executive architect Michel Arnold. A golden bulb will make the church culminate 42 meters high.
