A framed and glazed inscription bearing the Stockton coat of arms next to the stone effigy of Sir William Stockton in St Mary's church, Burrough on the Hill.
The stone effigy of a man in armour, his feet resting on a lion. It is thought to represent William Stockton (d. 1470).
The inscription reads -
Hic jacit
Williemus de Stockden
quondam Dominus de
Erdburrowe et Mar=
garetta, uxor ejus, filia
Johannis Skeffington
qui Williemus obit
1470
which translates as 'Here lieth Williemus Stockden deceased from
Erdburrowe and Margaretta, his wife, daughter of John Skeffington.
