He was born in 1839 in County Monaghan, Ireland and died on November 26, 1904 in Los Angeles, CA. He was awarded the nation's highest honor serving as a First Sergeant in Troop E, 8th U.S. Cavalry for action in the Arizona Territory in the vicinity of the Black Mountains from August 13 through October 31, 1868 and in 1869. He was issued the medal on September 6, 1869. He also served in Troop D and Troop G, U.S. Cavalry prior to receiving the Medal. His Medal of Honor citation reads: Bravery in scouts and actions against the Indians. He died in Los Angeles Soldiers Home after being transported from Kingston, NM where he worked several mining claims.
