Deuchary Hill is a 509 metre height amidst an extensive area of hilly moorland on the southern edge of the Highlands north of the Perthshire village of Dunkeld. Its craggy summit rises above forestry and Lochan na Beinne, a tiny loch lying under the summit to the west. The pillar lies just east of the rock that forms the actual summit, and is in good condition, with not surprisingly, excellent views from its lofty perch. The area is owned by Atholl Estates and walkers are welcome.

STEEPNESS:The south and east sides of the hill are steeper than the route up from the north-west. The last few yards up to the summit area are the steepest, but manageable.

TERRAIN: The estate tracks lead to a mainly grassy hill with some rock higher up.

ACCESSIBILITY: The Atholl Estates car park, 500 yards north of the A923 near Dunkeld is the usual starting point. From here it is three miles to the summit directly along the upper path to Loch Ordie, longer if approaching from the lower path up the north-west.

NAVIGATION: The route signed for Loch Ordie (lower path) heads up a track running west of the hill, before heading up a path through the forest from the north-west which reaches Lochan na Beinne. From here the summit is in sight and a fainter path climbs up the western face from the loch. A shorter steeper route climbs up from the upper path to Loch Ordie from the south, but is not marked on maps.

DANGER: Keep to the paths to avoid any rock outcrops on the upper part of the hill.
