The plaque has an eagle with outspread wings perched on a ribbon which is inscribed a quote from the Roman poet Horace: PRO PATRIA MORI DULCE EST "It is sweet (and proper) to die for one's country."

Bethlehem, CT is a town of 3,439 residents.The have places a series of of monuments honoring the citizens of the town who gave served in wars on the Town Green, This monument occupies the most prominent position at the apex of the Town Green triangle. t is also the only vertically oriented monument on the Town Green, the others being less noticeable, horizontal monuments.
