It was not until November 27, 1896 that Chatel-Aillon, a hamlet dependent on Angoulin, became, by decree, an independent municipality and now spelled Châtelaillon.
1881: The old lands of "Liné" are acquired by Gabriel Fauconnier to realize a subdivision in which are included the buildings of the church and the market. The "Civil Society Church and Market" is created to carry out these projects.
1882: Laying of the first stone in July 1882 in the presence of Father Juline Laferrière, delegate of the bishop, assisted by the priests of Angoulins and Thairé.
Placed in the middle of the fields, the new small church, more modestly a chapel, is built in 1882 and 1883: One does not have documents of this time.
1883: The inauguration took place in July 1883 by Bishop Thomas, Bishop of the Diocese.
On the bell in the campanile are the inscriptions in Latin; translation: "I give thanks to God. I call the people to prayer. I cry the dead. I participate in the festivities. It is in the year of grace1883. Gabriel Fauconnier and Berthe-Marie de la Poterie called me "Berte" (Berthe-Marie de la Poterie, wife of Noël Ferdinand) devoted me to Blessed Marie-Madeleine.

1905: Following the separation of the church next to the state, this place of worship is taken over by the bishopric in 1905. By the end of the 19th century, with the bathing of sea, the evolution of the station is considerable, the chapel is too small. The apse is made in 1906.
1926: New enlargement by adding the left nave, work done by Mr. Pierre Biget. (1926-1927).
1933: It is decided to add the right aisle to the existing building, as well as the installation of the paneling on the inside perimeter of the church. (1933-1934)
1933 to 1937: Realization and installation of stained glass windows: all stained glass windows were created by Mr. Gouffault d'Orléans, with the exception of two, works by Mr. Dagrant de Bordeaux.
1950: Collapse of the last vault of the central nave. Reconstruction by Mr. Ravail.
1987: Retrocession of the building to the commune of Châtelaillon to the expenses of complete restoration of the church and its maintenance.
28-12-1999: The storm causes major damage: collapse of the campanile on several arches and on the stand, damaged roof.
2000: The fresco in the right aisle and the polyphone (organ) are damaged by an act of vandalism. Restoration of the fresco by Atelier Viaud La Rochelle, late 2000.
2001: Exterior work: the reconstruction of the campanile, the platform, the vaults and the repair of the roof are realized.
Interior work: the whole interior has been renovated: walls and vaults (painting, woodwork, platform).
The polyphone was reinstalled after repair in April 2001.

Ce n’est que le 27 novembre 1896 que Chatel-Aillon, hameau dépendant d’Angoulin, redevient, par décret une commune autonome et s’orthographie désormais Châtelaillon.
1881 : Les anciens terrains de "la Linée" sont acquis par Gabriel Fauconnier pour yréaliser un lotissement dans lequel sont compris les constructions de l’église et du marché. La " Société Civile de l’église et du marché » est créée pour mener à bien ces projets.
1882 : Pose de la première pierre en juillet 1882 en préence de M. l’abbé Juline Laferrière, délégué de l'évêque, assisté des curés d'Angoulins et de Thairé.
Placée au milieu des champs, la nouvelle petite église, plus modestement une chapelle, est construite en 1882 et 1883 : On ne possède pas de documents de cette époque.
1883 : L'inauguration a lieu en juillet 1883 par Monseigneur Thomas, évêque du diocèse.
Sur la cloche installée dans le campanile figurent les inscriptions en latin ; traduction : «Je rends grâce à Dieu. J’appelle le peuple à la prière. Je pleure les défunts. Je participe aux festivités. C’est en l’année de grâce1883. Gabriel Fauconnier et Berthe-Marie de la Poterie m’ont baptisée « Berte » (Berthe-Marie de la Poterie, épouse de Noël Ferdinand) m’ont consacrée à la bienheureuse Marie-Madeleine.

1905 : A suite de la séparation de l’église ct de l'état, ce lieu de culte est repris par l'évêché en 1905. Dès la fin du XIXe siècle, avec les bains de mer, l’évolution de la station est considérable, la chapelle est trop petite. L’abside est réalisée en 1906.
1926 : Nouvel agrandissement par adjonction de la nef gauche, travaux réalisés par M. Pierre Biget. (1926-1927).
1933 : Il est décidé d'ajouter la nef droite à l'édifice existant, ainsi que la pose des lambris sur le pourtour intérieur de l'église. (1933-1934)
1933 à 1937 : Réalisation et pose des vitraux : tous les vitraux sont créés par M. Gouffault d'Orléans, à l'exception de deux, œuvres de M. Dagrant de Bordeaux.
1950 : Effondrement de la dernière voûte de la nef centrale. Reconstruction par M. Ravail.
1987 : Rétrocession de l’édifice à la commune de Châtelaillon aux charges de remise en état complète de l'église et de son entretien.
28-12-1999 : La tempête provoque d'importants dégâts : effondrement du campanile sur plusieurs voûtes et sur la tribune, toiture endommagée.
2000 : La fresque située dans la nef droite ainsi que le polyphone (orgue) sont détériorés par un acte de vandalisme. Restauration de la fresque par l'Atelier Viaud de La Rochelle, fin 2000.
2001 : Travaux extérieurs : la reconstruction du campanile, de la tribune, des voûtes et la réparation de la toiture sont réalisées.
Travaux intérieurs : tout l'intérieur a été rénové : murs et voûtes (peinture, boiserie, tribune).
Le polyphone a été réinstallé, après réparation, en avril 2001.
