Time capsule bronze plaque inscription:
"Time Capsule
Dedicated by Collier County Library
May 8, 2013
In celebration of the 90th Anniversary of
Collier County and VIVA Florida 500
To be opened on the 100th Anniversary of
Collier County in 2023"
Inspiration for this time capsule came from the Florida Department of State's Division of Library and Information Service's various "Viva Florida 500" events held throughout the state to celebrate the discovery and settlement of Florida.
Viva Florida 500 was a year-long commemoration of the discovery of the Sunshine State by Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de Leon and his crew in 1513, that took place on the 500th anniversary during 2013.
In 2012 the division sent time capsules to every public library system in the state. Collier buried one at the Naples Depot Museum on May 8, which was the 90th anniversary of the county's founding. The time capsule will be opened 10 years later on Collier County's 100th birthday.
