He was born on February 8, 1829 and died on September 7, 1902 in Jamestown, RI.
He attained the rank of Brevet Major General in the Union Army. His Medal of Honor information and citation is: WILLIAMSON, JAMES A.

• Date of issue: 17 January 1895
Citation: Led his regiment against a superior force, strongly entrenched, and held his ground when all support had been withdrawn.
