With about 10 stops on this half-mile long all-access paved and boardwalk trail, High Mountains Meadows Interpretive Trail starts behind the Lolo Pass Visitor Center. While it is in plain sight, most travellers ignore it.

Wondering around the trail you learn about the natural history of the pass. But it goes beyond this as there are history signs on the Nez Percé flight from the US Army and Lewis & Clark's Corps of Discovery through Lolo Pass.

It is an understatement to not understand the historic significance of this gap in the Bitterroot Mountains to the American West's heritage. And on the High Mountains Meadows Interpretive Trail, you can get a small glimpse into this world of the 19th century.
