This stone house was built as his family home by Charles Schlichtig, a stone mason born in the Duchy of Baden. The house was completed in 1852 and was constructed of locally quarried limestone. The house remained in the Schlichtig family for more than century. The Schlichtig family became important in the local history becoming active ship carpenters for various shipping firms on the Mississippi River.
