The small village of Caputh lies on the A984 road as it passes through the countryside of eastern Perthshire between the towns of Dunkeld and Coupar Angus. By the roadside to the east of the parish church is the First World War memorial which was unveiled and dedicated on August 5th 1920 in the presence of the Duke of Atholl.
Designed by Perth architect Mr A.G. Heiton, the memorial faces northwards to the road and takes the form of a gothic cross in red Doddingtone stone. The cross sits above a three tiered pedestal with a two step circular base. Oak leaves are carved into the head of the cross, with a sword carved in relief on the front face. The circular sandstone wall behind contains 33 names and rank in bronze lettering on five panels. Brass plates adorn the front face including a further 16 names and rank from World War II. The inscription on the plates read as follows:
'TO THE MEMORY OF THE MEN OF CAPUTH PARISH WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918
"THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE"
TO THE HONOURED MEMORY OF THOSE WHO FELL IN THE WORLD WAR 1939-1945'
