An iron and wood slat bench contains a bronze plaque in honor of World War II veteran Sgt. Joseph P. Whalen. He was born July 24, 1923 and attended St. Mary's School and Lee High School. After graduating high school, in 1942, he joined the United States Army Air Corps where he served from 1942-1945 as a radio/gunner in a B-25 Mitchell.
