The Centre opened to great fanfare in 2017. The museum tells the story of Stompin' Tom's, a boy who struggled through a rough childhood bouncing around foster homes and orphanages to a young man who hitchhiked across the country playing his guitar in any tavern that would have him and slowly growing up into a man who was putting the tales of his travels into lyrics. His nickname comes from the plywood board that he'd set under his right foot and pound to a pulp by the end of the night. Skinners Pond was his adopted home between ages 9 and 13 - probably the best years of his childhood.

The museum houses a great number of accolades from keys to cities and double platinum records. There is a karaoke studio where you can croon to familiar tunes. The one room schoolhouse that dates to 1859 has been restored and the house that he spent his time in is also on site. The STC also runs dinner theatre which I have heard is a blast - full of great Maritime humour.
