The Stamp Mill
The gold in Villa Rica is fine, like flour, and locked up tight in small particles in the rock. To extract the precious gold metal from the gold bearing ore, a stamp mill (or stamp battery) is used to pound and crush the material into smaller pieces for further procession.
pound and crush the material
The ore is brought down the mountain and put through the "Grizzly". The bars in the Grizzly prevent large material from coming through. Small material is loaded on ore carts (like the one shown at the back of the stamp mill). Then the cart goes up the track and the ore is dumped on the platform.
