Dobrá Tea has a fascinating history. Because the best teas were reserved only for the government or the military elite in Communist Czechoslovakia, the founders and suppliers of Dobrá, smuggled good teas into Prague from East Germany. After the 1989 Velvet Revolution, the Society of Tea Devotees was formed, in 1992, and created their first Bohemian-style tearoom, Dobrá Cajovna, in Prague.

In 2003 Dobrá Tea opened its first U.S. tearoom in Burlington, VT the tea room in Portland is independently owned and operated. According to their Facebook page They are a "A Bohemian-style tearoom serving and selling over 100 varieties of tea & tea drinks, light fare and desserts, with gluten and vegan options."
