According to Encyclopedia Britannica, William Shakespeare was an "English poet, dramatist, and actor often called the English national poet and considered by many to be the greatest dramatist of all time." He was born in the 1560s and in his lifetime wrote more than three dozen plays and more than 150 sonnets. Much of his work is extremely well-known, being standard parts of English curriculum in schools around the world.
