This statue of Saint Alphonsus Liguori is at the North East campus of Mercyhurst University, outside of the Liguori Field House building.

Saint Alphonsus was born in the Kingdom of Naples in 1696 and, after studying and practicing law, became a priest. In 1732, he founded the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, also known as the Redemptorist Order. He was consecrated a bishop in 1762 and died in 1787. Pope Gregory XVI canonized St. Alphonsus in 1839.

The North East campus of Mercyhurst University is at the site of the former Saint Mary Seminary of the Redemptorist Order. The seminary was opened in 1881 and closed in the mid-1980s. Mercyhurst purchased the property and opened it as a satellite campus in 1991. Today, there are still many reminders of its history as part of the Redemptorists, including this statue of their founder. Unfortunately, both hands of the statue have been broken off.
