The statue features a leaping tiger. Towson University has nicknamed their mascot "Doc" in honour of long time sports department head Donald "Doc" Minnegan.
Prior to 2003, the university's teams were known as the Golden Knights.
The piece was a gift of the Towson University Alumni Association in 2012.
