Commemorative plaque inaugurated in 2010 at the Gotha District Court in memory of the Catholic youth pastor Marcel Callo, who was imprisoned here with 10 French faith brothers and later murdered in the concentration camp.
The plaque describes the way of suffering and the final beatification in 1987 by Pope John Paul II in German and French.
Marcel Callo and his ten French brothers in faith gathered, prayed and sang in front of a strawflower cross (the cross of Gotha) in their community cell in the Gotha prison, which they themselves liked to call the "Obergemach" (upper chamber) - according to the Holy Scripture (Acts 1,13 ff.). Of the "eleven" (1 priest, 2 seminarians, 8 CAJ leaders) eight died in concentration camps, also Camille Millet (died on April 15, 1945 in Flossenbürg): He had bound a cross from "Immortellen"; with Fernand Morin, one of the survivors who was to leave Gotha last (direction Buchenwald), it came to France.
