"On August 19, 1942, Operation Jubilee is launched on the beaches of the Dieppe region with the goal of opening a gap in the German defenses in view of the great assault on the northwestern façade of Europe that will take place. in Normandy on June 6, 1944.
Today, the Dieppe Memorial, built in 2002, pays tribute to the living as well as the missing and explains, beach by beach, the course of the fighting.
On the beaches of Les Puys, Berneval, Varengeville, Pourville and Dieppe, Operation Jubilee had a terrible outcome for the Allies. The Puys beach east of Dieppe is notably sad: 550 Canadian soldiers have landed, 231 have died, others have been captured.
The city of Dieppe paid tribute to Canadians by reserving a small park where a monument is erected. The Dieppe-Canada Memorial Post stands in the center of Canada Square, a testament to Canada-Norman friendship. "
