The tale of the two rivers East and West Dart. Both rising high up within the hills of Dartmoor.
(Both river rise with a military firing range,it is permissible to enter, to walk within the ranges. However, walker must observe and be aware of range firing times).

The West Dart river rises near to Rough tor which is on a very remote part of the moor.
It meanders down off the moor collecting water from other named rivers such as the Cowsic, Cherrybrook and Blackabrook etc.
Water is taken from the rivers by way of leat's(man made water course to supply water) which ultimately supply residential reservoirs.
Passing by the mystical Wistmans wood and Two bridges.
Along with old clapper bridges there are some crossing points which are large boulders of granite.

The East Dart river rises near to and equally meanders down off the moor. Rising near to Whitehorse hill and near to Cranmere Pool (the birth place of letter boxing (circ 1850) and ultimately the modern Geocaching) cascading over some small waterfall and collecting additional water from its tributary's, villages such as Postbridge with its clapper bridge and at Dartmeet

After the two rivers meet, at Dartmeet. The river takes on a new meaning cutting through the deep sided valleys of Holne Chase, a favourite for the white water rafters (care should be taken the river Dart has claimed a number of lives).

After falling off the hills of Dartmoor, the pace of the river slows as it widens. Passing places such as Buckfast Abbey, where the monk make the famous brew, over weirs seeing lush farmland and wildlife.
At Totnes more pleasure craft are afloat finally onto Dartmouth and out to sea.

Access to any part of this river, should be done with care. Whether walking deep into the moors to find its source, walking along its banks, white water rafting or any other water sport. The River Dart has claimed lives.
