He was born on July 13, 1839 in Syracuse, NY and died on August 15, 1915 in Wilmington, DE. He attained the rank of Colonel in the U.S. Army. His Medal of Honor information and citation is: WAINWRIGHT, JOHN

• Entered service at: West Chester, Pa.
• Date of issue: 24 June 1890
Citation: Gallant and meritorious conduct, where, as first lieutenant, he commanded the regiment.
