The fountain consists of a large circular bowl with four sea horses holding a second smaller circular bowl with their heads and tails. It was designed by the painter Cristopher Unterberger on an existing model and carved by Vincenzo Pacetti. In 1791, it replaced the previous Mascherone fountain destroyed along with its delimiting enclosures.
