Camp Niagara was home to regiments training for the War of 1812, World War I and World War II. During World War II, the site was mainly dedicated to the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion.

The sign on the site reads:
Formed on July 1st, 1942, the Battalion joined the British 6th Airborne Division in England in 1943 serving with them in Normandy, Belgium, Holland and Germany. Returning to Canada after VE Day, May 8th, 1945, the Battalion was stationed in Niagara-on-the-Lake awaiting transfer in to the Japanese Theatre of War. Following VJ Day, August 15, 1945, the Battalion was disbanded on September 30, 1945. Thus ended the service of this unique Battalion which, despite severe casualties, never lost a battle or failed to achieve all objectives. Included in the many personal battle honours is a Victoria Cross recipient.
