Tryon is a town in Polk County. The community was named for William Tryon, colonial governor. It is in the Eastern Standard time zone. Elevation is 1,109 feet. The estimated population, in 2003, was 1,740.

Tryon is on the southern slope of the Blue Ridge above the Pacolet River Valley. Poet Sidney Lanier was among those coming here in the late 1800s, seeking a cure for his tuberculosis.
