This tree has been dedicated to Brady Oberg and was planted in front of Barry Hall, which houses the Center for Global Initiatives and Leadership.
Brady Oberg was born and raised in Minnesota. After graduating from high school Brady worked as surveyor in both North Dakota and Minnesota until he entered the US Army in 2009. Brady did his Basic and Advanced Individual Training as an infantryman at Ft. Benning and went on to serve during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan for a year with Bravo Company 2-4 Infantry 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division.
After his time in the military he and his wife Katie returned to Minnesota where he enrolled at St. Cloud State University while running a small business he had started and working another side job.
Brady transferred to NDSU to complete his degree in Ag Economics.
Mr. Oberg fought Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder brought on by front line service in Afghanistan but on 6 Aug. 2015 Brady died by suicide.

An article in Stars and Stripes about suicide states that the VA has done a few studies. The latest report (2015) shows 20.6 military suicides every day. Of those, 16.8 were veterans and 3.8 were active-duty service members, guardsmen and reservists, the report states. That amounts to 6,132 veterans and 1,387 service members who died by suicide in one year.

In November of 2015, the Brady Oberg Legacy Foundation was established to help combat veterans.
