The flag of Lupsingen was created in 1946. The wolf as a heraldic animal was chosen because of the similarity of the town name with the Latin word for wolf (lupus). But this is just a coincidence, the name probably comes from the Alemannic founders of the village in the early Middle Ages, perhaps the clan of the Lubo. But after unconfirmed traditions there was the wolf as a heraldic animal of the village much earlier. The colors are those of the dominion of Waldenburg, to which Lupsingen had belonged until 1798.

I found the flag on a lamppost in the village center. The flag type is a kind of vertical hoisted flag with a tapering tail, a relatively new type that came up just a few years ago.

Die Flagge von Lupsingen wurde 1946 geschaffen. Der Wolf als Wappentier wurde wegen der Ähnlichkeit des Gemeindenamens mit dem lateinischen Wort für Wolf (lupus) gewählt. Das ist aber nur Zufall, der Name stammt höchstwahrscheinlich von den alemannischen Gründern des Dorfes im Frühmittelalter, vielleicht die Sippe des Lubo. Nach unbelegten Überlieferungen gab es den Wolf als Wappentier des Dorfes aber schon viel früher. Die Farben sind diejenigen des Amtes Waldenburg, zu dem Lupsingen bis 1798 gehört hatte.

Ich fand die Flagge an einem Laternenpfahl im Dorfzentrum. Der Flaggentyp ist eine Art Knatterfahne mit sich sich verjüngendem Schwanz, ein relativ neuer Typ, der erst vor ein paar Jahren aufgekommen ist.
