Schwimmwagen Amphibious Car
This amphibious scout car, or Schwimmwagen, saw service in large numbers with German forces during the Second World War.
The Schimmwagen was an adaptation of the Kubelwagen utility truck, the German equivalent of the Jeep. Both were based on a civilian Volkswagen vehicle design. The Germans introduced the Schwimmwagen to replace sidecar motorcycles used for reconnaissance. The crew could switch quickly between road and water operation by lowering the vehicle's retractable propeller.
