Conroe News"The Montgomery County Airport was constructed by the Civil Aeronautics Agency in 1939. It was operated by the U.S. Navy through World War II. Adolf Hitler was thought to be interested in Conroe's oil fields and the Naval air base was a means to protect Conroe's oil. It was also used as a weather station. In 1946, the airport was turned over to Montgomery County."
