From an information panel on site:

Designed to carry the gun's crew, tools and equipment, and ammunition, the FAT also often towed a field artillery trailer carrying additional ammunition for the gun. Canada built more than 22,000 FAT during the Second World War. Canadian troops used these rugged, dependable vehicles in Italy and in Northwest Europe.
