The Wirral Way is a long distance footpath along the route of the former railway line that has now been converted to a rails to trails route and also forms Wirral Country Park.

At the time the bridge was built in 1870 there was farmland to the south of the line and this bridge provided access to it. Between 1900 and 1911 the farmer sold the land and it was converted to a golf course and access to the bridge blocked.

The metal name plate of the bridge is in the style of an old railway sign.
