Burrator Reservoir was built on the river Meavy so that the water authority could extract and supply water to the city of Plymouth.

Two water gauges are within this post one measures the height of the water within the reservoir.
The other gauge is with the octagonal building. Within this building float and flow gauges measure the water being released from the dam.

This is a requirement to maintain the water flow of the river Meavy down stream and onto the sea.
