The Blacksmiths shop situated away from the main workings of the Quarry.
Played an important role in the quarrying of the stone within the Merrivale.
Merrivale quarry, quarried Granite stone which being ingenious rock, is very hard and required skill man power and patients to quarry the stone.
Because the stone was needed for building the use of explosives were not used so a technique was used where. A series of holes were drilled along the boulder and then feather and tare (plug and tare) were used to literally wedge the boulder apart.

The cut boulder was then taken to the machine shops for "dressing" and if required "polishing.
None of this could have possible without sharp drills, chisels and the feather's and tare's. All of which was kept sharp by the Blacksmith.
In one way their role was pivotal to ensuring the quarrying and machining of the finished stone.
Note: Within the second image, the remains of the forge with its chimney.
