The Marmalake Grain Store better known as the "Murtoa Stick Shed " was constructed in 1941 as a solution for grain storage during World War 2.
The shed was constructed form 560 unmilled poles or "sticks" up to 22m in length in 56 rows of 10 to support the corrugated iron roof , the "Stick Shed" is 270m long, 60m wide and 19 m high at the apex and had a capacity for 3.5 million bushels or 90,000 tonnes of wheat. Wheat was dropped to the floor from a conveyor belt that ran just under the apex of the roof .
The "Shed" referred to by some as "The Cathedral of the Wimmera" was closed in 1989 and is now Heritage listed
