"There has been a church on the site of St Cuthberts, Doveridge since the 13th century.

The approach through the churchyard is under a "tunnel" formed by the branches of an ancient yew, which has stood for over 1400 years. Legend has it that Robin Hood and Maid Marion were married under this tree. Indeed, a lot of visitors come to see this magnificent sight.

The present building has been built in phases, often adapting to the needs of the congregation of the time. One important feature of the church is its fine, long, early 13th century chancel still with its original lancet windows; it is of the same proportions as the nave and there is no dividing arch between the two. The aisles were added in the 14th century. Most recently, the Octagon has been built to the side of the church, with a kitchen and toilets, allowing use of the space for groups and meetings."
