"Bernard et Rolande Verdon ont créé un parc d'attraction dans un bois près de Saint-Malo, il y a 40 ans. Précurseur en Bretagne, leur invention est toujours restée à la page et plébiscitée par le public.
L'histoire
Cobac parc va fêter en juillet ses 40 ans. Un anniversaire qui illumine le sourire de Bernard et Rolande Verdon. « Tout est parti d'un méchoui », rit le couple. Les Malouins sont tripiers pour le gros abattoir de la Ville à la fin des années 60. Sur leur temps libre, ils sont aux fourneaux pour collecter des fonds et aider les orphelins. Les bénévoles sont connus, porte de Dinan près des remparts, pour la qualité de leur méchoui.
De broche en broche, ils sont sollicités pour des fêtes de famille, le comité d'entreprise du groupe industriel Roullier. « On a eu l'idée de chercher un petit terrain en bord de mer pour faire une guinguette », se souvient Bernard. Sauf qu'à l'époque, la côte coûte déjà cher. Un agent immobilier leur propose un bois, nommé Cobac, dans la campagne de Lanhélin, à 30 km. Sept hectares à défricher.
Après le tripier, le boucher
« On a mis deux ans avant d'ouvrir », rappelle Rolande. Le soir, le week-end, avec des matériaux de récupération, de l'inventivité et de la bonne volonté, ils construisent un grand hangar pour la restauration, des jeux pour les enfants, un plan d'eau. « On connaissait au Mans, un petit parc de loisirs créé par un ferrailleur, ça m'a donné des idées », confie le Malouin, habile de ses mains. Dès le départ, les groupes, les familles sont ravis de se retrouver dans ce bel espace à la fois reposant et ludique.
Le couple continue de travailler à l'abattoir, embauche et développe Cobac pas à pas. Un petit train, des bateaux miniatures, des structures gonflables, les attractions pour tous les âges trouvent leur place. Les Malouins sont pionniers dans ce secteur en Bretagne. En France, les parcs de ce type se comptent à peine sur les doigts des deux mains à la fin des années 70. Un jour, des confrères en balade dans le secteur, tombent par hasard sur le petit panneau du bois. Ils échangent idées et expériences et se fédèrent autour d'un syndicat. « Aujourd'hui, il a plus de 250 adhérents, avec même Disney et Astérix ! »
Le petit village breton de Lanhélin est resté digne d'un héros de bande dessinée. Au fil des décennies, il a tracé sa route et résister. Bernard et Rolande Verdun sont partis en retraite il y a dix ans. « On travaillait presque 7 jours sur 7 depuis l'âge de 14 ans, alors maintenant on profite ! » Aujourd'hui, Cobac parc appartient à un homme qui possède Le grand aquarium de Saint-Malo et d'autres parcs de loisirs en Europe. Ce natif du Touquet a débuté avec son père, boucher-charcutier, en faisant... des repas de famille. Pour les 40 ans de Cobac, cet été, le barbecue devrait être une belle fête."

The story
Cobac parc will celebrate its 40th anniversary in July. A birthday that brightens Bernard and Rolande Verdon's smile. "It all started with a mechoui," laughs the couple. The Malouins were trippers for the city's large slaughterhouse in the late 1960s. In their spare time, they are in the stoves to raise funds and help orphans. The volunteers are known, Dinan Gate near the ramparts, for the quality of their mechoui.
From pin to pin, they are solicited for family celebrations, the works council of the industrial group Roullier. "We had the idea of looking for a small piece of land by the sea to make a dance hall," Bernard recalls. Except that at the time, the coast was already expensive. A real estate agent offers them a wood, called Cobac, in the Lanhelin countryside, 30 km away. Seven hectares to clear.
After the tripper, the butcher
"It took us two years to open," says Rolande. In the evening, on weekends, with recycled materials, inventiveness and good will, they build a large hangar for catering, games for children, a lake. "We knew Le Mans, a small leisure park created by a scrap metal dealer, it gave me ideas," says the Malouin, skilled with his hands. From the beginning, groups and families are delighted to find themselves in this beautiful space, both relaxing and fun.
The couple continues to work at the slaughterhouse, hiring and developing Cobac step by step. A small train, miniature boats, inflatable structures, attractions for all ages find their place. The Malouins are pioneers in this sector in Brittany. In France, parks of this type were barely counted on both hands at the end of the 1970s. One day, colleagues walking around the area stumbled upon the small wooden panel. They exchange ideas and experiences and federate around a trade union. The small Breton village of Lanhelin has remained worthy of a comic book hero. Over the decades, it has paved its way and resisted. Bernard and Rolande Verdun retired ten years ago. "We've been working almost 7 days a week since we were 14, so now we're enjoying it! "Today, Cobac Park belongs to a man who owns Le grand aquarium de Saint-Malo and other leisure parks in Europe.
