Le site de la Gravière Brock à Hermalle-sous-Argenteau se situe entre le Canal Albert et la Meuse,
juste au sud du pont d'Hermalle-sous-Argenteau.

la Province a autorisé la SPRL Brock à y établir une carrière de graviers à ciel ouvert pour dix ans et à partir de 1983, la société Brock a exploité le gravier
de la Meuse dans une carrière. En fin d’exploitation, la gravière s’est peu à peu transformée en un plan d’eau d’environ 8 hectares alimenté exclusivement
par la nappe phréatique de la plaine alluviale de la Meuse, l'ensemble du site fait 12 hectares.

L’abandon de la gravière et son relatif isolement ont favorisé une colonisation spontanée par une faune et une flore caractéristiques des abords d’eau stagnante. Le plan d’eau présente un intérêt majeur pour l’hivernage des oiseaux et comme zone de reproduction pour certaines espèces d’amphibiens protégés. Le maintien de ce site dans la vallée de la Meuse, couloir migratoire de première importance, est essentiel.

Il joue également un rôle important dans le réseau écologique local. Il est situé à 500 mètres du Hemlot et de l’île de Franche-Garenne. Actuellement, fuligules et canards de surface sont les hôtes les plus nombreux.
Le Martin-pêcheur y est nicheur.
On retrouve également plusieurs couples nicheurs de grèbes huppés et des sternes.

La plus grande partie du site est occupée par un plan d'eau profond, entouré d'une étroite ceinture de végétation herbacée discontinue.
Des friches rudérales sont présentes à différents endroits, notamment vers le nord où se trouve aussi une zone humide de quelques ares.

En effet, actuellement de nombreuses zones demeurent difficilement accessibles, mal fréquentées et dangereuses par la proximité d’un plan d’eau constitué de berges non aménagées. Les aménagements proposés contribueront à la sécurisation de ce site dédié à la promenade et
la découverte de la nature et des espèces.

Cette gravière présente, dans le contexte de la Basse-Meuse, une grande importance ornithologique, en tant que halte de migration et site d'hivernage
pour les oiseaux d'eau, en particulier les Fuligules milouin et morillon.
Son intérêt herpétologique est à souligner: elle héberge en effet une population non négligeable de crapaud calamite.

The Gravière Brock site in Hermalle-sous-Argenteau is located between the Albert Canal and the Meuse,
just south of the Hermalle-sous-Argenteau bridge.

Ruddy wastelands are present in different places, especially to the north where there is also a wetland of a few acres.

In fact, many areas are currently difficult to access, badly frequented and dangerous because of the proximity of a waterbody made up of undeveloped banks. The proposed developments will contribute to securing this site dedicated to the walk and
the discovery of nature and species.

This gravel pit presents, in the context of the Basse-Meuse, a great ornithological importance, as a migration stopover and wintering site.
for waterfowl, especially the pochards and dolphins.
Her herpetological interest is to be emphasized: it hosts indeed a significant population of toad calamitus.
