He was born on December 6, 1809 in Bethel, VT and died on December 18, 1903 in Montpelier, VT. He attained the rank of Brigadier General in the Union Army. His Medal of Honor information and citation is: THOMAS, STEPHEN

Citation: Distinguished conduct in a desperate hand-to-hand encounter, in which the advance of the enemy was checked.
