[GER] Die evangelische Hauptkirche Sankt Michaelis (volkstümlich: Michel) ist der bekannteste Kirchenbau von Hamburg und gilt als bedeutendste Barockkirche Norddeutschlands. Für die Schifffahrt auf der Elbe stellt der weithin sichtbare Sakralbau mit seiner markanten Architektur seit langem das Wahrzeichen der Hansestadt dar.
Die Kirche ist dem Erzengel Michael geweiht, der als große Bronzestatue über dem Hauptportal als Sieger im Kampf mit Satan dargestellt ist. Der Kirchbau steht in der südlichen Neustadt zwischen Ludwig-Erhard-Straße, Krayenkamp und Englischer Planke. Der Kirchturm hat eine Höhe von 132,14 Metern. Das heutige Bauwerk ist ein Wiederaufbau von 1912, nachdem die Kirche 1906 abgebrannt war.

[ENG] The Protestant main church St. Michaelis (popularly: Michel) is the best known church building in Hamburg and is considered the most important baroque church in northern Germany. For shipping on the Elbe, the church with its striking architecture, which is visible from afar, has long been the symbol of the Hanseatic city.
The church is dedicated to the archangel Michael, who is depicted as a large bronze statue above the main portal as the victor in the battle with Satan. The church building stands in the southern Neustadt between Ludwig-Erhard-Straße, Krayenkamp and Englischer Planke. The steeple has a height of 132.14 metres. Today's building is a reconstruction from 1912, after the church burned down in 1906.
