He was born in 1834 and died on February 23, 1890 in Washington, IN. His Medal of Honor information and citation is: TAYLOR, RICHARD

• Place and date: At Cedar Creek, Va., 19 October 1864
• Entered service at: Martin County, Ind.
• Date of issue: 21 November 1864
Citation: Capture of flag.
NOTE: Original interment was in the town cemetery which was abandoned in 1895. Their was a reinternment in St. John's Cemetery for those who could afford the fee. Taylor's remains and others who were not reinterred, stayed and the area was eventually paved over. In recent years a patriotic organization placed a Medal of Honor Flat Bronze marker affixed to a monument in Pioneer Park honoring Taylor and other county pioneers.
