This sesquicentennial historical marker of 1995 gives a condensed history of the Mission Nuestra Señora Del Refugio from which this present day Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church traces its history. The text on this historical marker has a correction added below the main marker which adjusts the dates of some of the more current buildings at this site. Chronologically, here is the incremental progression of what the know today as Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church:
1791 - The Spanish Mission Nuestra Señora Del Refugio was built 30 miles NE of here
1795 - Mission Nuestra Señora Del Refugio relocated to this site.
1868 - A stone sanctuary was built in the same year the mission was destroyed completely
1901 - This Victorian wood framed sanctuary was built on the same site as the old mission.
1940 - The school and the convent were added.
1946 - The auditorium facility was added.
Below the official Texas historical marker #3886 is a small plaque of the same fashion that was added at some point to correct some the details of the dates when additional building were added. The chart above incorporates the information on this correctional plaque. The plaque reads as follows:

Correction:
The school and convent of Our Lady of Refuge Parish were built in 1939-40. The complex was dedicated March 31, 1940.
Marker Number: 3886

Marker Text:

This church traces its history to Nuestra Senora del Refugio (our Lady of Refuge), a Spanish mission established in 1791 (30 mi. NE). The mission relocated here in 1795. The mission church survived various administrative reorganizations and in 1868 built a stone sanctuary at this site. The 1868 building was razed, and in 1901 an impressive Victorian/Romanesque sanctuary was completed here. School, convent, and auditorium facilities were added in 1946. This church, which represents the area's unique blend of Spanish and Irish heritage, continues to serve the local community.
