Bitter Lake is a glacial lake owned by the state of South Dakota. It has three lake access points, this one is located on the east side and is free public access. There is a private access area near Bitter Lake Lodge.

As one of the premier fishing lakes in the area, fishermen come from miles around to enjoy their sport. Fish in the lake include: bullhead, crappie, carp, northern pike, rock bass, and white bass.

The boat ramp is removed for the winter but ice fishermen still have access to the lake at this location.
